The Brief

Central FS were hired alongside BPS to install ceiling mounted panel heaters to keep the monkey’s enclosure at the correct temperature.

Key Issues

Before a start was made to the job there were many points to consider regarding animal safety. Our Electrical Engineers worked closely with the Zoologists to make a clear and concise programme of works. This was in order to ensure that completion dates were met, as there was a specific timeline in which the monkey’s had to be able to return to their enclosure. There was also equipment required for working at a height.

Approach Taken

The job began with a pre-start meeting with the zoo and zoologists to go over all details regarding the project. They were then provided with a program of works, and our engineers commenced the installation of the panel heaters, which were controlled via a thermostat in the zookeeper area. Continuous communication was maintained with the client and collaborators to ensure all objectives were met.

Outcome

Once the work was completed, it went through a round of testing and commissioning to ensure that everything was working effectively. Certificates were then issued to Edinburgh Zoo and the handover was completed. The monkeys happily returned to their enclosure, with the zookeepers now having the ability to control the enclosure’s temperature. From this job, a follow-up job was obtained for an outside socket installation.
